World War II was directly caused by the economic troubles and hard feelings created by World War I. As the world ramped up for war the United States officially walled itself off through Isolationist policies.
When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor all plans for neutrality were off. The sleeping giant was awoken and US industry became the "arsenal of democracy." By 1945 the Axis powers were defeated and Europe and the World went about rebuilding. WWII was officially a success at home. It ended the Great Depression by putting people back to work and it allowed Americans to save vast amounts of money. The economic boom of the 1950's is directly attributed to the gains made during WWII. World War II was devastating to both Europe and the Asian territories that were conquered by Japan. As the Soviet Union and the United States jockeyed for power, the world was divided into two Spheres of Influence. The seeds of the Cold War were sown in the occupation of the defeated Axis powers. |
